New Housing Arrangements - Part II

So, why the awesome new rooming arrangements? Well, since last January, the former guest hut has literally crumbled away. Most of the damage seems to have come from termites, with a liberal dose of weathering from rain, constant high humidity and maybe a bit of wind. When coupled with the damage to the water system it lead me and Chip into a serious discussion about the harshness of the environment on the island. It is always easy to observe the severity of an arctic or desert environment yet we seldom think of a tropical one as hostile. Nonetheless, the heat, insect life, extreme humidity and exposure to salty marine air all encourage corrosion on a tremendous scale and conspire to destroy man-made structures with amazing efficiency. The tropics are a tough gig - I will let the photos do the speaking.
